On the 21st of November a conference was held on ecological restoration of wetlands in the Balearic Islands, focusing on the European Nature Restoration Regulation, organised by WWF with our collaboration and that of the FELIB. During the conference, key issues such as conservation policies, the objectives of the regulation and funding options were highlighted, underlining its relevance in tackling the ecological crisis and ensuring a sustainable future.

- Importance of the European regulation: It is seen as an essential step towards protecting biodiversity and promoting sustainable social and economic benefits.
- Outstanding initiatives: Projects such as Life Pletera in Girona and RestaurAlcúdia in Mallorca, which combine environmental conservation with social and tourism development, as well as local actions in Menorca and Ibiza, such as cleaning canals, improving water quality and creating new lagoons, were presented.
- Nature-based solutions: Lamination systems and natural filters were highlighted as sustainable tools to manage flooding and pollution.
- Collaboration and participation: The success of projects depends on political consensus, institutional support and citizen participation, as well as access to European funds.
- Restoration manual: A tool that provides guidelines to ensure the viability and sustainability of future projects, including ecological monitoring and evaluation of results.
Overall, the conference underlined the importance of protecting wetlands as key areas for biodiversity, climate change adaptation and sustainable development in the Balearic Islands and Europe.
