The Balearic shearwater is classified as a critically endangered species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

The current status of this Balearic endemism is the most critical of all the seabirds in Europe. This study, promoted by IRBI in collaboration with SEO/BirdLife, will provide the knowledge to improve the protection of this emblematic species.
