Environmental Education
35.000€ awarded
Summary
Environmental education is fundamental to promote ecological awareness and sustainable practices that protect and preserve the environment. Through environmental education, people, especially young people, are motivated to actively participate in solving environmental problems, promoting an engaged citizenry that is aware of the need to conserve natural resources for future generations. In a world facing challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution, environmental education becomes a crucial tool to achieve sustainable and equitable development.
The problem
Even though environmental education is such a powerful tool, the reality is that there are few opportunities for schools and their students to access environmental education activities. There are environmental education programmes carried out by a multitude of organisations, but few students take part in their activities, usually due to lack of resources.
Collaboration
This proposal will support the educational projects of several different organisations, such as Cleanwave and Palma Aquarium. Through these collaborations, a number of activities will be offered free of charge to educational centres with preferential attention. These educational centres require a special focus due to socioeconomic, cultural or geographical location factors, and therefore need more resources and specific measures to guarantee an inclusive and equitable education. In this way, a large number of students will be able to access environmental education activities that awaken their interest in the environment and that they would otherwise not be able to enjoy.
Objectives
Impact
Since the launch of the Re-Generation Project in the 2023–2024 academic year, approximately 2,000 students across Mallorca have been reached through a range of environmental education activities, including classroom-based workshops, educational outings and visits to environmental organisations.
During the 2025–2026 academic year, a variety of activities are currently underway, including workshops for primary school pupils, visits to Palma Aquarium for secondary school students, beach clean-ups and visits to an apiary.
