Mobula mobular is one of the Mediterranean's most iconic and threatened species. Classified as Critically Endangered at the international level, it plays a vital role in maintaining the balance of marine ecosystems, yet very little is still known about its ecology and behaviour.

With the support of Mallorca Preservation, Save the Med is carrying out a research project to improve knowledge of the spatial ecology of this species in the Balearic Islands. Through marine and aerial surveys, satellite tagging and scientific monitoring of individual rays, the project generates key information on their movements, habitat use and the areas that are most important for their conservation.

The data collected will contribute to the development of evidence-based conservation and management measures, strengthening the protection of this species and the marine ecosystems of the western Mediterranean.
