The government has approved sustainability tourism plans in Baleares for a value of 55 million euros, funded by European funds.

Of that total, 24 million will go to projects in Mallorca. The Sectoral Tourism Conference, which met in Madrid, approved the projects for the islands, which benefit from the Sustainable Tourism Destination 2022 program. Mallorca will receive funds for plans in six municipalities, including one from the Consell de Mallorca:

• Capdepera will receive 4 million for the restoration of degraded landscape areas and improvements in sustainable mobility and lighting.
• Pollença will receive 2 million for the sustainable rehabilitation of the old Capitol cinema and actions to improve energy efficiency and digitalization.
• Sant Llorenç will have 4 million for the comprehensive sustainable transformation of Cala Millor, with actions in marine spaces and in the circular economy and public lighting.
• The Santa Margalida plan, with 3.3 million, will transform Can Picafort, including the remodeling of the Paseo Colón and digitalization actions.
• Manacor will dedicate 2 million to the Artificial Reef Project in Porto Cristo, with ecological restoration actions and scientific-technical activities in the municipality and at the interpretation center.
• The Son Servera project, with 3 million, includes improvements to the promenade, the Puig de sa Bassa park, and the adaptation of Calle Sol.
• The Consell de Mallorca plan, with 6.1 million, includes the sustainable rehabilitation of the Can Planes building in sa Pobla and actions on mountain roads.

The government’s approval of sustainability tourism plans in the Balearics is a positive step towards protecting the environment and promoting sustainable tourism in the community. The allocation of these 55 million euros shows a commitment to addressing the challenges of tourism in the islands and ensuring its long-term sustainability.
