Plastic Kilometers for Iris is back!

This year Plastic Kilometers for Iris is back once again. The environmental initiative against plastic pollution in the Balearic Islands that brings together young people from Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera.

After the success of the 1st edition of the initiative “Kilometres of Plastic for Iris”, the 2nd edition of the project is starting this February. This initiative is promoted jointly with Mallorca Preservation, Menorca Preservation, Ibiza Preservation and Foro Marino, organised by 0 plastic with the collaboration of Alnitak.

In order to raise the environmental awareness of young people, we invite them to participate by organising nature walks with friends and/or family to share ideas and reduce plastic pollution on their island. The collective goal is to reach 10,000 km travelled against plastic by 30 April 2022 among all island participants.

The participants, who will walk kilometres on nature routes, will have the opportunity to participate in the contest “One minute for your island” in groups of two people, by creating a one-minute video answering ” What would you do to fight against plastic pollution on your island?

The contest has the collaboration of Alnitak Research Institute, which will allow the winners of the contest to enjoy a 1-day (year 8 & 9) or 10-day (year 10 till 13) expedition on board Toftevaag, an authentic centenary sailing ship, together with a group of six young people and marine researchers and educators with the aim of carrying out marine conservation activities.
